Family Fun Days
The Surrey Aiming High for Disabled Children Team (now called Short Breaks for Disabled Children) ran four Family Fun Days in 2010-11 for families with disabled children and young people. These events provided a fun and safe environment where families of disabled children could spend time with each other and also to raise awareness of organisations in Surrey who provide services for these families.
There were magicians, face painters, farm animals, chinese ribbon dancing, football, arts and crafts, tae kwon do, self defense and more! If you missed it you missed a great time but you can get a feel for what happened by watching the video below. And if you are hoping to hear there will be more, you're in luck! Stay tuned for more news of fun days in 2011....
The above short clip was produced by Guildford College Students at our first event on Saturday 27th March. 86 Families came along with 173 children and young people, more than 100 of whom were disabled. Positive feedback from the day included:
‘It is brilliant- many more to come fingerscrossed’‘Fantastic event- lots of fun had by all’
‘It was fab! Very well organised and the venue was great. Thank you for all the hard work’
Involving Parents Event
On 23rd November 2010 at the Hilton Cobham, the Aiming High team held an event for parents and providers to show what has been achieved so far and to discuss the future of Aiming High.
The day was a success with some great presentations and videos from providers including halow, Redhill & Reigate YMCA, Grafham Grange and from Surrey Youth Development Service.
